Local Commercial – Ron’s Automotive – Space Wars

by on Jan.31, 2010, under Matt Gorecki, Video

I just finished my first commercial for Ron’s Automotive. It’s got a talking dog, a space shuttle, and epic music.

Andy Jacobs provided Kojac’s voice.

I plan on uploading some of the behind the scenes photos, too.

Paul Said This

My father-in-law says things sometimes. Weird things. So, my wife and I have started a website to curate these enlightening passages.

Photo on the front page

by on Jan.29, 2010, under Matt Gorecki

I forgot to mention yesterday, but one of my photos was used on the front page of the local newspaper. The Helena IR isn’t exactly the New York Times, but it’s always fun to see your work in print. The story was about Teddy Culbertson and his trip to the Winter X Games in Aspen this week. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to compete this year because he was an alternate and nobody was injured (for the first time ever).

Joined Uvumi

by on Jan.26, 2010, under Able Danger

In the wake of the horrible changes to thesixtyone, I have signed up at a new music sharing site that I think is promising. Uvumi.com is a small music site that has been around since 2008. My friends in the Electro Freaks group have chosen Uvumi as our new home for the time being.

Come say hi to all the Freaks.

Asarco Smelter Demolition

by on Jan.26, 2010, under Video

Asarco Smelter Demolition [RED 4K] from Tempest HD on Vimeo.

Demolition of 3 smokestacks at the Asarco lead smelter in East Helena, Montana. The tall brick stack was 400 feet tall and built in 1930 and the 425 foot tall concrete stack was built in 1982.

I wrote the song and edited the video. Shot in 4k with a Red One.

Internet Famous

by on Jan.25, 2010, under Internet Famous

Mike Soto and I are starting up a sports agency called Internet Famous. It’s something I never imagined I would do. Right now we are working on signing our first athletes. They are all in the snowmobile/motocross freestyle sports. With your keen powers of deduction, I bet you can guess who the first athlete is. As things become more official, I will be able to talk about our projects in more detail.

Wish us luck.

T61 widgets are dead

by on Jan.25, 2010, under Able Danger

Apparently, they didn’t do enough damage to thesixtyone last week. Now the track widgets are broken. I’ll spend some time today uploading my songs to this site. I had already planned on doing that anyway.

T61 Boycott

by on Jan.22, 2010, under Able Danger

In light of the new, absolutely terrible redesign of thesixtyone, I am taking part in the week long boycott against the site.

The problem here is not that there is change, but the manner in which the site was changed. I’m going to repost my comment from the earlier T61 post because I think it’s relevant.

As a relatively new artist (about a year), thesixtyone has been an amazing place. I met a lot of new people, generated interest in my music and learned a lot from the other artists there.

With the redesign that’s all gone. All of the community and social aspects of the site have disappeared and we are left staring a giant background image. I didn’t go to the sixtyone to look at cover art. I went to listen to music and to discuss it with my friends and fans.

The other thing I find baffling is that they were making real money with tip and album system. Fans were actually supporting the artists directly. It was working. That feature has been buried in this design. And, by burying the discussion between artists and fans, they have effectively killed the primary reason to tip an artist.

The worst part about it is that James and Sam don’t talk with their absolutely fanatical users. There was no mention that a redesign this drastic was going to happen. There was no beta period for testing. All of those people commenting on the T61 Facebook page are their true fans. James and Sam haven’t said a single word.

Some interesting discussions about the redesign:
On Hacker News
On Reddit

Last night I uploaded some of my music to Stereofame. Stereofame appears to take the T61 game concept and pushing it to the max. It’s like fantasy baseball for music. Could be interesting.
